Fishing Trip for NB & PEI

Soldier On members from all over NB-PEI are welcome to apply for a fishing event in collaboration with Upper Oxbow Outdoor Adventures. Soldier On will be hosting a four-day fishing event at Upper Oxbow Lodges. Participants will have the option to use fly rods or spinners. Guides will take participants out in boats in the hopes on snagging a nice striped bass. This event will take place in Silikers, NB. This activity will bring together both serving and retired ill/injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.

Through facilitation of Upper Oxbow guides participants will learn the skills required for fishing with both fly rods and spinners. This event with also allow participants to experience the river and everything the outdoors has to offer.

The event will include some basic instruction, introduce basic fishing techniques and discussion on various applications of fishing for this time of the year and in this area. 

Using the new skills and knowledge participants will then get an opportunity over the two days to practise with a guide from the boat. 

Assistance with travel along with meals provided by the lodge and on-site accommodations this event promises to be a memorable experience.

14 May  
  • 5 p.m. – Arrive, get rooms and unpack;
  • 6 p.m. – Dinner; and
  • 7 p.m. – Free time, hot tub and fire pit.
15 & 16 May 
  • 8 a.m. – Breakfast; 
  • 9 a.m. – instructions, gear and equipment, fishing for the day;
  • noon – bag lunch on the river;
  • 1 p.m. – continue fishing;
  • 5 p.m. – return to the lodge; and
  • 6 p.m. – Dinner.
17 May
  • 8 a.m. – Breakfast; and
  • 9 a.m. – Submit claims, pack and depart for journey home.
The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 10.

Minimum eligibility criteria
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the provinces of New-Brunswick and Prince-Edward-Island who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Serving Members
Medical clearance may be required by your chain of command.

Mental & Physical Requirements
  • Participants will be required to wear a life jacket at all times while around the water and on the boat.
    • Participants will also be required to physically get themselves in and out of the boast, as well as be able to swim.
  • Participants must be able to tolerate six to eight hours of moderate-paced activities for two days in a row.
    • Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
  • Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
    • Participants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol allowed in the accommodations.
Nomination Forms must be received by Soldier On no later than the 29th of April, 2022.
